It's just that you're surrounded by other biomes, so you can make a run for it and, hopefully, not get overwhelmed. away from larger patches where demon gates will spawn on your head, though, they can still spawn in. The number 2 of each map size where you have large green in the middle and other biomes at the outer edges don't have this but, the number 1 map of each size have the compo pack for POIs and the biomes are scattered in such a way that you probably will find a small patch of wasteland somewhere.
